Staining & Clear Coating
Quality Assurance Painting offers Staining and Clear Coating services for doors, desks, bookshelves, wood floors, kitchen or bathroom cabinets, handrails, and even for outdoor use on fences and decks.
Staining is generally used on wood surfaces that consist of a colorant suspended or dissolved in an agent or solvent. The suspension agent can be water, alcohol, petroleum distillate, or the actual finishing agent (shellac, lacquer, varnish, polyurethane, etc.). The type of stain will either accentuate or obscure the wood grain. Most stains contain both dye and pigment and the degree to which they stain the wood is mostly dependent on the length of time they are left on the wood. Stain is composed of the same three primary ingredients as paint (pigment, solvent, and binder) but is predominantly pigment (or dye) and solvent with little binder.
Clear Coating also known as Clear Sealer is applied to surfaces that have been painted or stained. Clear Coating is the application of a transparent coating to provide protection from abrasions, staining, chemicals or solvents. Clear Coating is generally applied to exterior surfaces of decks or fences to be protected from UV light, and makes these surfaces also be water resistant. Clear Coatings can be also used on interior surfaces such as wood cabinets, or wood floors.
Staining and Clear Coating applications can be applied either with a brush or a spray.
